The TableSync apps

Five apps, one job each: be a character, run the game, play alone, show the battle map, look up a rule. They hand their work to each other as files and codes, with no account and no server in between.

What are the TableSync apps?

The TableSync apps are five free apps for fifth edition tabletop games, each with one job: TableSync Player for a character, TableSync DM for running the game, TableSync Solo for playing alone, TableSync Map for the battle map on the table, and TableSync Codex for the SRD rules.

TableSync Player

Your character sheet, dice and spells, at the table or on your own. It builds and levels a character under the 2014 or 2024 rules, rolls with one tap, and joins a desktop TableSync table so the DM sees every roll.

For every playerPermissions internet, vibration

TableSync DM

Run the game: the party's numbers on one roster, initiative, hit points and conditions, encounters from the SRD bestiary, and session prep in the improv-kit format.

For the game masterPermissions internet, vibration

TableSync Solo

Play adventures on your own, or write your own: gamebook scenes with real checks and fights, an oracle journal for freeform play, and a studio for writing and sharing adventures.

For a player with no group tonightPermissions vibration only

TableSync Map

The battle map on the table, at a true one-inch grid: any map, fullscreen and bright on a tablet, TV or projector, with templates at true scale and no tokens, because the minis are physical.

For the screen on the tablePermissions internet, vibration

TableSync Codex

Every SRD rule, spell, monster and item, offline: one search that forgives typos, filters for every list, cross-links and tappable dice.

For anyone, mid-argumentPermissions vibration only

Each app is a free Android download and a web app that runs in any browser (the Player at undeployedadam.com/tablesync/, the others at /tablesync/dm/, /solo/, /map/ and /codex/), and each works offline. None needs the others; together they save retyping.

How do the TableSync apps work together?

They send each other one thing at a time, in a small envelope called a TableSync Link: a character, a party, an adventure, an encounter, a map or a rules record. Read each row from the app on the left to the app that receives, named across the top.

Sends to:PlayerDMSoloMapCodex
Player-a charactera character--
DM-the party, an encounter, a session's prep (to another DM device)-a map-
Solothe character, after the adventure-an adventure (to a friend)--
Map---a calibrated map (to another device)-
Codex-a monster for an encounter, a rule or spell for the notes--a record (to a friend)

A Link travels three ways:

  • Straight across, on Android. Send opens the receiving app when it is installed, and its page when it is not.
  • As a file, ending .tablesync.json, saved or shared like any other file.
  • As a code, a line of text beginning TSL1. that you paste into a chat; a Link too big for a code goes as a file instead.

Every app checks the whole Link before it writes anything, says in a plain sentence what is wrong with one it cannot use, never overwrites without asking, and names the app a Link belongs to when it is sent to the wrong one: "This is an adventure - open it in TableSync Solo." A plain character file exported from TableSync Player counts as a character Link.

Do the apps need the desktop TableSync?

No. Every app works on its own. The desktop TableSync for Windows is the hub for a live, networked table: a DM screen, a projector view calibrated to real inches, and the link players open. Three of the apps can join one:

  • TableSync Player joins as a player, so rolls reach the DM's screen and the battle map reaches the phone.
  • TableSync Map joins as the projector view.
  • TableSync DM opens the desktop's DM screen on a tablet.

Nothing new runs on the desktop for this; each app opens the page the desktop already serves, from its address or a join link.

What do the TableSync apps do with my data?

They keep it on your device. There is no account, no TableSync server, no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting and no third-party SDK in any of them, and a Link goes only where you send it.

Questions

Do I need all five TableSync apps?

No. Each app does its own job alone; install the one you need. Together they save retyping: a character built in TableSync Player becomes a party card in TableSync DM or a hero in TableSync Solo without anyone copying numbers.

Do the TableSync apps need an account or the internet?

No. None has an account and all of them work offline. TableSync Solo and TableSync Codex declare no internet permission at all; Player, DM and Map use the internet only to reach a table address you enter.

How do I send a character from TableSync Player to TableSync DM?

In the Player's character file sheet, choose Send to another app, then Send to TableSync DM, which on Android opens the DM app straight away; or share it as a file or a code. TableSync DM shows the party card it worked out before it adds it, and the player keeps their own sheet.

Are the TableSync apps on Google Play?

Each app's page says where its Google Play listing stands. Every app is also a free APK download from this site, with its SHA-256 on its page and in SHA256SUMS.txt, and a web app that runs in any browser.

Are the TableSync apps official products?

No. They are independent, free tools, not affiliated with, approved or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast. Their rules content is the System Reference Document, which Wizards of the Coast publishes under CC BY 4.0.

Licence

Every app's code is MIT. The rules content they carry is the System Reference Document 5.1 and 5.2.1, used under CC BY 4.0; no sourcebook content is distributed. Each app's page names its version and its download's checksum.
